Chris Doyle - Chapel Street's Community Arts Worker
Do you have hidden talents?
Chapel Street has a new community arts worker
who wants to increase opportunities for people
living in the area to take part in music, dance,
drama, film making, photography, or any other
creative activity that people are interested in.
And he wants your suggestions.
“I want to hear from people who want to get
involved in any kind of arty type activities,
whether it’s something they’ve done before or
something they’ve always wanted to do but
never had the chance”.
Said Chris,” I want to help put on the kinds Chris Doyle
of activities that people want to see in their communities”.
Chris, a musician, explains that there are lots of benefits on offer for people
taking part in arts activities, and he should know. “The focus of the project isn’t
just about ‘the arts’. It’s about helping people to achieve what they want to do,
whether that’s to learn new computer skills by using film editing software,
improve their fitness by taking up dance classes, sing in a choir or just meet
other people while learning something new in a fun and friendly environment.”
He adds, “Learning new skills can be the first step onto a new career path, and
the arts can sometimes be the key to unlocking people’s hidden potential. I
learned how to play guitar when I was a teenager, and didn’t decided to study
music full time until I was 28, but it eventually led me to the job I have now.
I didn’t know such a job existed when I was a kid, but playing the guitar opened
doors for me”.
Activities will run all year round and will cater for all age groups.
So if you’d like to get involved or would just like to hear more about the project,
